He believed that breathing is the key to proper exercise and that with the right guided training you could achieve a perfectly healthy body... The Pilates method that he created and developed during his life is the only one (along with Yoga) that uses the breathing combined with the execution of the exercises. It belongs to the type of gymnastics we call mind and body as it requires the full concentration of the mind to achieve the exercises correctly. Pilates himself called the method Contrology because absolute control of mind and body is necessary for a harmonious execution of his program. With the Pilates method we achieve strength, flexibility, correct posture and complete relief from musculoskeletal pain.
